Received positive verbal response from the project leader re internal Twitter proposal but my timing is unfortunate. A brief written proposal must be submitted so that it can be discussed with the departmental head. Although I do not doubt approval, I am concerned that staff leave may now cause delays. Submitting a brief outline with detailed examples may be worthwhile. Several things to do:
- Learn about setting up twitter groups
- Practice on family (?) Katoomba Amusement Company members (?)
- Survey blogs and other likely information sources for appropriate ongoing information re cataloguing; digitisation; conservation; historic collections of print, original materials and pictorial material; relevant events and conferences
- Check whether RSS feeds operate into twitter groups
- Write up guidelines for content inclusion and use
This seems a very modest venture when compared with the all encompassing and inclusive websites and blogs that have been set up by public librarians and other practitioners. As the Collections Services newsletter is about to resurface, albeit electronically rather than print, after a very brief commitment to publishing staff news on the official blog, it does not seem a promising atmosphere in which to launch an alternate format news source. KAC may have been a better choice, except for the uncertain connectivity status of some group members!
