No access to internet last night but a little time to think around project proposals. Very much like to discuss information literacy/ transliteracy with the Public Library network team at work with a view to contributing to their programs and inputting into Access & Information Services’ digitisation of SLNSW Pathfinders. I’ll make enquiries informally at this point but strategic programs are at saturation point and I doubt I have an adequate time frame for assignment 1 submission.
Setting up a limited network across Access & Information Services and Collection Services for inter-departmental updates and professional updates may be possible but this would have to avoid duplicating any information currently mounted on the existing internal blogs (State Library, eRecords, Collection Services, Access & Information). 3 information needs are frequently expressed by those not included in strategic management meetings:
- Grass roots type information updates that affect service and short term service planning
- Mentoring
- management of professional awareness whilst avoiding information inundation
General overviews of project work and progress should be obtainable from current blogs. First step will be to survey current official blog information for frequency and grass roots relevancy and establish the ease and enthusiasm for contributing staff. What are the procedures for contributing and which blogs have public visibility, therefore requiring more official sanction of formatting and data?
As I am considering a twitter format with restricted staff access, contribution could be quicker, more informal and more inviting for time poor individuals. Guidelines would have to be very clear to avoid duplication of information across sources (ie existing blogs and proposed twitter group).
Mentoring requests and invitations could be included??
