An interesting time getting Yammer up and running amongst the team. Spoke to about 22 team members including the program leader and team leaders of various sub-groups. 2 staff still to contact. 1 staff member preferred not to participate. 14 activated membership of the network, approximately half of those requested an invitation to facilitate the process. 1 Yammer member existed prior to my joining the network. IT had set up a ‘network of one’ 12 months ago to “investigate” application to “the Intranet”. What were the findings then?

From the 14 active members today there have been 41 posts, variously about what work they are involved in accompanied by personal observations on the process or characteristics of the material that may interest others. Other items included “off to lunch” and my post signalling a revised procedure document (+ file path). Last thing, I added a feed for Christine Schwartz’ Cataloging Futures Blog. I hope this will be interesting and pertinent. It also has the advantage of only 1 or 2 posts per week. A group of up to 25 + a number of feeds could quickly crowd out the Yammer page and perhaps render it too “noisy” for effective use. Posts have generally been short, but longer posts quickly crowd older posts down the page. Twitter’s 140 character limit has advantages.

It would be valuable to add a visual component to Yammer … collect yammered feed suggestions into pageflakes as the trial progresses? then post a link on Yammer? Thus making the pageflakes accessible via the Yammer ‘Links” tab?
