A YouTube search for 'oral history' offers lots of US content, many school projects, but also some bigger social education projects such as the DenshoProject. This project has set out to document stories of Japanese immigration, discrimination and wartime incarceration in the US, stories many preferred to forget, but which will be very important for the next generation. Video footage includes old photographs as well as interviews. The Project is a wonderful example of ensuring difficult experience and cultural understanding is handed down and over before it is too late.

So many opportunities for such a web archive in Australia ... time to go searching for Aus projects ...

The 10 min time limit on YouTube might require some tight editing but there are other options eg. Google video that can cope with longer files. Great idea ... let us know at slnsw2.0@gmail.com what you find for Aussie oral histories in video format.
