As well as a great opportunity for fun, invention and learning, youtube is offering fine exposure for political activism ... and not just for rather soulless Australian elections. I was looking for video footage of graffiti artists in France, particularly Marseilles and Arles as I had seen some nice wall art there ... not as much as expected, but some good graphics ... and came across a montage in memory of Jan Kucera, a young Czech antifascist murdered by skinheads in January this year. Perhaps this is a 'mashup', but whatever the format, the content is made even more dark and edgy by the very illegality of the graffiti and violence captured in the 2 minute clip. Electronic media are powerful tools for social engagement ... witness the Cronulla riot call to arms via sms ... but hopefully also for mobilising proper public anger as in this video page:
