'Design thinking'

"Design Thinking is what people do when they pursue their goals. Everyone focuses their thinking in order to satisfy wants and needs regarding a particular situation. They recognize and define information according to their purpose, consider alternatives, decide what to do, do it, determine if they are satisfied with the results, and if not revise their approach until they are successful, all while learning through the experience. This is designing."
A quote from Charles Burnette from a de Bono blog discussion of ‘design thinking’

Does this model of purposeful thought differ from models of information literacy? Designed as a teaching model, launched in 1990, it is considered a basis for individual creativity as well as effective lifelong learning. Starting with ‘design students in classrooms to help teachers conduct design projects related to their teaching goals’, it seems to have evolved into an examination of education from the learner’s point of view; looking at the individual’s ‘designing’ the learning structure, actively pursuing information and creative goals, and functioning autonomously.

Perhaps this is a model of autonomous learning in action, illustrated by Fred Johnson’s 1992 gradient of ‘autonomous VS dependent learners’; to create autonomous learners; a goal that may or may not be achieved through information literacy guidance.
